The Student Registration System (SRS) was developed by BERLAND TECHNOLOGIES, INC. for several of our education services clients.  It is now available to other users with similar needs. The system is designed to support the operations of training programs and adult education. Data stored in SRS  is easily accessible by all regardless of computer skills.

The Student Registration System (SRS) expedites the process of student registration, tracking classes and performance, and maintaining current information. SRS provides powerful reporting and inquiry features (including ad-hoc reports), allows the addition of new data fields without programming, and creates data files for download to other sites.

Automation of record keeping is accomplished using a client/server application. The client portion of the application runs under Microsoft Windows. The server portion is implemented as a Microsoft SQL Server database.

Software Design

The Student Registration System (SRS) allows your staff to maintain and query student training information.  SRS is a Microsoft Windows compliant application, built using industry standard tools (Visual Basic, ODBC drivers and Microsoft SQL Server).  The data is stored in a SQL Server database, which supports access by multiple users and offers excellent performance. SRS offers the following modules:

Class Enrollment & Tracking - This module allows  your staff to schedule unlimited numbers of class sessions, with instructors and monitors, and allows rapid access to the enrollment log. This multi-user, graphical enrollment module allows for easy booking of classes to capacity, provides waiting-lists, and allows for teacher and monitor booking and scheduling. Payment requirements and payment fulfillment are also tracked.

Information Maintenance - This module allows your staff to maintain the data stored in the database, including information about students, instructors, classes, and class completion.

This module displays this information to your staff member in a tabular, or browse, perspective.  These perspectives can be sorted and filtered (display may be limited to records meeting specific criteria).  An instant report can be printed, which reflects the current contents of the perspective.  These reports offer a quick way of answering management and client inquiries.

From the perspectives, the staff member may highlight a record for editing or deletion, and may add new records.  We provide posting processes to improve your work flow throughput.  For example, we provide an efficient method for keying and editing class attendance rosters.

Reporting - This module offers your staff a number of pre-defined reports, as well as access to a powerful, visual report writer (such as Crystal Reports Pro).  The report writer allows your staff to define and save ad-hoc reports.  More complex and commonly used reports (e.g., Enrollment Confirmation, Class Roster, and Completion Certificates) can be customized by us.

Inquiries - This module allows the user to formulate and perform queries on the database using a Query-By-Example (QBE) engine.  This allows your staff to rapidly answer questions.

Import and Export - This module is the gateway between the Student Registration System (SRS) and other applications, such as the Modem Access Application (MAA) and other outside data sources.  It would allow the administrator to build download files for, and import activity logs from, the MAA, as well as update the Student Registration System database from outside data sources.

Operational Integrity - This module offers services to your administrator to maintain the application's integrity. This includes the ability to control access to the SRS database, the ability to add and drop custom data fields in the SRS database, and other operational maintenance tasks.
